Silver Bullet Roots - Silver-Stabilised Root Zone Treatment
Best for: hydroponic and coco growers who want to keep Pythium and other root disease out of a shared reservoir without resorting to harsh chemicals.
Our thoughts
This is the reservoir-side partner to Silver Bullet Mist - where Mist handles surfaces and tools, Roots goes into the feed itself to keep pathogens out of the root zone. The old listing for this one had been copy-pasted from a lighting product, right down to "Power: 5W" appearing as a spec, so we've rewritten it properly using the real dosing and mechanism. Genuinely useful if you run a shared reservoir, where one sick plant's roots can take the whole system down with it.
Silver Bullet Roots is a silver-stabilised hydrogen peroxide additive dosed directly into your nutrient reservoir or feed solution. The silver ions seek out bacteria, fungal spores and other pathogens, attach to them and break down their protective barriers, after which the hydrogen peroxide destroys them by oxidisation. Once the microbes are dealt with, the silver re-stabilises with other peroxide molecules rather than breaking down straight away, so the treatment keeps working in solution for around five weeks - regular hydrogen peroxide loses its effect within hours.
As pathogens are cleared, the ongoing release of oxygen around the root zone helps roots stay whiter and healthier, which in turn improves nutrient and water uptake. The formula is non-toxic, non-corrosive, chlorine-free and pH-neutral, so it won't throw your feed's pH out or damage pumps, drippers or reservoir fittings with repeated use.
How it compares
Root zone protection in hydro generally splits into "kill the pathogen" products and "add more good microbes" products, and Silver Bullet Roots sits firmly in the first camp.
- Stays active in solution for around 5 weeks, compared with plain hydrogen peroxide which degrades within hours of being added to a reservoir
- Works by eliminating pathogens directly, unlike beneficial-bacteria root inoculants such as Hydroguard, which take the opposite approach of adding competing microbes rather than removing harmful ones
- Chlorine-free and pH-neutral, so it can be dosed regularly without the corrosion risk of bleach-based reservoir treatments
If you want a reservoir additive that actively knocks back root disease rather than just crowding it out, this is the more direct option.
Usage guidance
Dose rate depends on what you're treating and whether disease has already shown up.
Ongoing system maintenance
Dose at 0.5-0.8ml per litre of reservoir solution to keep an active hydro system clean between refills.
Cuttings and seedlings
Use 2ml per 10 litres if there's no history of root disease, or 4ml per 10 litres if there is.
Preventative use on established plants
Dose at 4ml per 10 litres early on, moving to 6ml per 10 litres every 1-2 weeks once plants are established.
Treating an active problem
Use 8ml per 10 litres for 5 days, then drop back to the 6ml per 10 litres maintenance rate. For a full shock treatment, dose at 1ml per litre.
Flushing and cleaning a system
Dilute at 2ml per 10 litres and flush pipework through with clean water afterwards.

Who this is for
- Hydroponic growers running a shared reservoir, where one infected root system can spread to every plant
- Growers who've had Pythium or other root disease before and want a preventative routine
- Propagators wanting a disease-free dip and soak solution for cuttings and clones
- Coco and run-to-waste growers wanting cleaner feed without switching to a chemical-heavy regime
Our take
Root disease is one of those problems that's cheap to prevent and expensive to fix once it's taken hold in a shared system. Silver Bullet Roots gives you a genuinely long-acting way to stay ahead of it, with dosing that scales from light maintenance right up to treating an active outbreak.
Worth picking up if you want equipment - and additives - you can rely on.
