Plagron Bat Mix 50L — Nutrient-Rich Organic Substrate for Flowering Plants
Best for: Growers with established plants who want quality results and minimal nutrient fussing
Our thoughts
Bat Mix is a proper substrate that does the heavy lifting for you. Pre-fertilised for six weeks, packed with bat guano for flavour and aroma, and built on a foundation of peat and worm castings that just works. One we recommend a lot for growers who've moved past seedlings and want reliable organic growing without the guesswork.
Plagron Bat Mix is an organic peat-based substrate designed specifically for established plants moving into the flowering phase. It's pre-fertilised with 10.5 kg/m³ of organic nutrients and loaded with bat guano — a natural phosphorus and potassium powerhouse that drives abundant flowering and improves taste and aroma. The mix also contains worm castings and perlite for proper aeration and water retention, so you're getting a complete growing medium right out of the bag. The organic biology does the pH and EC regulation for you, which means less monitoring and more growing.
How it compares
Bat Mix sits in the premium organic tier, positioned between budget multi-purpose compost and specialist professional systems.
- More nutrient-dense than Plagron Allmix (which is finer-textured and beginner-friendly)
- Stronger guano profile than Royalmix, but slightly lower yield potential — trade-off is better flavour focus
- Richer EC than BioBizz All Mix; better suited to established plants than seedlings
- Genuine six-week nutrient lock — no guessing when to start feeding
If you're comparing organic substrates and flavour matters as much as yield, Bat Mix earns its place.
Usage guidance
This is a substrate for plants that are ready for it. Key point: Bat Mix is densely fertilised, so timing matters.
For established plants (4+ weeks old)
Use straight from the bag. No rinsing needed. Plants benefit from the full nutrient profile and will thrive for the first six weeks without additional feeding. Around week four, start introducing compatible nutrients so they're available by week six when pre-fertilisation runs out.
For younger plants and clones
The EC is too high. Rinse the substrate before use by filling a pot and running 5–10 litres of water through it to wash off immediately available nutrients. This brings the EC down to seedling-safe levels.
Organic growing practice
The soil life regulates pH and EC naturally. Don't overthink it. Water when dry to the touch, let organic biology work, and trust the system.
