Plagron Pure Zym — Enzyme Additive for Root Health and Substrate Reuse
Best for: Soil and coco growers who recycle media, want cleaner root zones, or are serious about substrate maintenance
Our thoughts
Pure Zym does a straightforward job: it breaks down dead roots and plant matter so your plants can use them as food. If you're recycling substrate or just want a healthier root zone without complexity, this is one to grab. Plagron's reputation speaks for itself, and at this price point, it's proper value.
Plagron Pure Zym is a concentrated, stabilised enzyme solution designed to accelerate the breakdown of dead plant material in your root zone. By converting that organic matter into available nutrients, it improves soil life, strengthens root health, and massively reduces the risk of root diseases like pythium. Use it throughout your entire grow cycle at just 1 ml per litre of water — one of the simplest enzyme products to dose. It's certified organic, works brilliantly with soil and coco, and because it's so concentrated, it treats a tonne of water for reasonable outlay.
How it compares
Pure Zym sits in the value-conscious, user-friendly enzyme segment.
- Simpler dosing than competitors — 1:1000 ratio beats most multi-enzyme blends
- Certified organic, making it ideal for growers using organic nutrients like Alga Grow
- Cost-per-litre competes directly with Cannazym; significantly cheaper than premium options like Hygrozyme
- Fewer enzyme types than Sensi Zym or Cannazym, but proven effective for substrate maintenance and reuse
- Not suitable for hydroponic systems — soil and coco only
Usage guidance
Pure Zym works throughout your entire growing cycle, from vegetative through to finish.
Dosing
Add 1 ml per 1 litre of water. Shake well before use. Add to your nutrient solution with every watering.
Substrate recycling
This is where Pure Zym earns its place. If you're reusing soil or coco, there's dead root material and organic matter building up. The enzymes break that down, releasing nutrients and keeping your medium clean. You'll see a real difference on the second or third reuse.
Fresh substrate
Even if you're running fresh media every time, Pure Zym still works. Better root zone health, faster nutrient uptake, lower disease risk.
Important notes
If your solution smells a bit off or looks cloudy, that's normal. The organic ingredients trigger natural bacterial processes. It won't harm your plants. Flush irrigation pipes after use if you're running drip systems. Not suitable for hydroponic setups.
