Omega CFL Reflector With 5m Lead — Budget-Friendly Grow Light Hood for Even Light Distribution
Best for: New growers and budget-conscious setups wanting a low-cost reflector that handles seedlings, clones, and early-stage growth without the HID heat or price tag
Our thoughts
This is a solid entry-level reflector that does the job properly without overcomplicating things. The dimpled finish and precise angles actually hold their own against much pricier HID reflectors, and the 5m lead means you don't need to hunt around for extension cables. One we sell a lot of for first-time CFL setups.
The Omega CFL Reflector is a purpose-built reflector hood designed to maximise light spread and intensity from standard CFL bulbs whilst keeping heat low and hotspots out of the picture. With a 5 metre mains lead included, strengthened lamp holder, and highly polished dimpled reflector, it's a proper bit of kit at a price that actually makes sense for beginners and budget growers. No ballast needed — just plug it in, screw in your CFL bulb, and you're growing.
How it compares
CFL reflectors sit at the budget end of the grow lighting market, and the Omega holds up well.
- Costs a fraction of HID or LED setups but delivers comparable light distribution for early-stage growth
- Stronger lamp holder and secure hook design than standard Euro-style reflectors
- Open-ended design keeps things cool — plants can sit close to bulbs without burn risk
- Works with multiple CFL spectrums (Dual Spectrum, Deep Blue, Far Red) so you can dial in what you need
The real win? Low upfront cost and even lower running costs. CFL bulbs are cheap, last roughly 10,000 hours, and use minimal electricity compared to HPS or LED.
Usage guidance
This reflector works across a few common setups:
Seedlings and propagation
Suspend the reflector 15-20cm above seedlings using Jack Chains or Rope Ratchets. CFL bulbs produce minimal heat, so plants won't scorch even at close range. Perfect for clones and young growth where you want reliable, low-stress light.
Early vegetative growth
Position in the centre of your growing area for even coverage. Adjust height as plants grow. Use Deep Blue or Dual Spectrum CFL bulbs for vegetative stages.
Installation
Screw your E40 CFL bulb in firmly using a clean cloth. Suspend securely. The 5m lead reaches most standard socket positions, so no extension cable needed.
Important note on CFL reality
CFL bulbs radiate 360° and need a reflector to bounce light downward — you'll lose some efficiency compared to directional lights like LED. Growth will be slower and yields lower than HPS or LED, but cost per setup is massively lower. Good for hobbyists, seedlings, herbs, and leafy crops where intensity demand is low.

Who this is for
- First-time growers wanting to learn without a big budget outlay
- Anyone setting up seedling or clone propagation on a shoestring
- Budget hobbyists growing herbs or leafy vegetables indoors
- Growers expanding setups gradually and needing cheap, reliable fixtures
- Anyone wanting low-heat lighting for delicate early-stage growth
Our take
This is a no-nonsense reflector that does exactly what it should. The dimpled finish and angles actually compete with reflectors costing three times the price, and the included 5m lead saves you messing about with extensions. CFL isn't flashy or high-yield, but it's a smart entry point if you're cash-conscious or just starting out.
Good time to buy while clearance stock lasts. A solid bit of kit for seedlings, clones, and early growth that won't rinse your budget.
