Grassroots Living Soil Beds — Fabric Raised Beds Built for Soil Biology
Best for: Growers running living soil systems who want beds that actually preserve soil microbes instead of drying them out
Our thoughts
This is the difference between a fabric bed that drains well and one that actually works with living soil. The MoistureLock™ liner keeps moisture where the microbes live, which is the whole point. Made in the USA, built properly, and does exactly what it claims.
Grassroots Living Soil Beds are fabric raised beds engineered specifically for living soil growing. Unlike standard fabric containers that drain from all sides and create dry pockets, these beds use a MoistureLock™ waterproof liner that directs water downward, maintaining even soil moisture throughout the root zone. This keeps your soil microbes active and feeding your plants naturally, rather than going dormant from dry edges. Combined with a 4" aeration strip at the bottom, you get the best of both worlds — healthy drainage without sacrificing the microbial life that makes living soil work.
How it compares
Grassroots stands apart from both standard fabric beds and wooden alternatives.
-
vs. Standard fabric beds: Regular fabric allows air pruning and drainage from all sides, which dries the outer soil too quickly and kills microbial communities. Grassroots' MoistureLock™ prevents this by directing water downward only.
-
vs. Wooden raised beds: Faster to assemble, lower cost, no rot risk, no pest issues, and you can actually reuse them season after season.
-
vs. Individual fabric pots: Much larger soil volume means less frequent watering, better nutrient battery, and a proper habitat for beneficial bacteria and fungi.
Usage guidance
Grassroots Living Soil Beds work across different setups and scales.
Indoor growing rooms and tents
Beds fit standard indoor spaces. The modular PVC frame system allows you to build to your exact dimensions. Available with or without trellis fittings depending on your canopy control setup. Standard trellis height is 60cm; tall trellis option goes to 110cm.
Outdoor patios and gardens
These beds work equally well outdoors. The fabric is durable enough to handle season-to-season reuse, and the waterproof liner keeps soil stable even with inconsistent weather.
Living soil feeding approach
This is where Grassroots beds shine. Load with quality living soil mix, top-dress when needed (usually not until crop 2 or 3), and let the microbes do the work. Moisture stays consistent, microbial populations stay active, and nutrient availability improves naturally. No nutrient schedule stress — the soil feeds the plant.
Moisture management
The MoistureLock™ liner lengthens your wet-to-dry cycle compared to standard fabric, meaning less watering and lower humidity indoors. You're working with the soil biology instead of against it.

Who this is for
- Living soil growers who want beds that actually support soil microbiology
- Organic and regenerative growers moving away from bottled nutrients
- Serious indoor cultivators running multiple beds in controlled spaces
- Anyone tired of replacing wooden beds every few years due to rot
- Growers who want to scale up from small pots to proper soil volume without the labour of individual containers
- Outdoor gardeners and patio growers wanting reusable, weather-resistant infrastructure
Our take
If you're running living soil, standard fabric beds are actually working against you. Grassroots beds fix that problem with a simple but clever piece of engineering — the MoistureLock™ liner keeps your microbes in the game instead of letting them dry out at the edges. Build quality is solid, they're made properly in the USA, and they'll last you multiple seasons.
Worth picking up if you're serious about living soil. This is one we recommend for growers who want the soil to do the feeding.
