Growth Technology Conductivity Standard Calibration Fluid 300ml - Keep Your EC Meter Honest
Best for: any grower who doses nutrients by EC/CF reading and wants confidence the meter is actually telling the truth.
Our thoughts
This is one of those small bottles that quietly stops big mistakes. A meter that's drifted out of calibration will happily feed you wrong numbers all week, and you won't know until leaves start telling you something's off. At under a fiver it's cheap insurance for a system that might be feeding hundreds of pounds of plants. Not exciting, but exactly what it says it is.
Growth Technology's Conductivity Standard is a calibration fluid with a fixed, known electrical conductivity of 2.76 mS/cm (roughly CF 27.6). You use it to check your EC meter, pen or controller against a reference point and adjust it if the reading has drifted.
EC probes drift over time through normal use, exposure to nutrient salts, and age. Growth Technology recommends recalibrating at least once every couple of weeks if you're using the meter regularly, more often in commercial or high-use setups. Simply dip the probe in the standard, wait for the reading to settle, and adjust your meter to match 2.76 mS/cm.
How it compares
Calibration fluid is calibration fluid - the value that matters is a genuinely accurate, stable EC value in the bottle, and a size that doesn't force you to buy more than you need.
- Bluelab and Hanna Instruments both sell their own EC calibration solutions at broadly similar price points, usually pitched at meter owners of their own brand.
- General Hydroponics' calibration solution is a common alternative in UK grow shops but typically comes in a smaller bottle for the price.
- Growth Technology's 300ml bottle gives enough fluid for dozens of calibration checks before you need another one.
There's no clever formulation here to compare - it's a reliable, known-value reference fluid at a sensible price, which is really all you want from this category.
Usage guidance
Calibrating your meter
Pour enough fluid into a clean, dry container to fully cover the probe tip. Insert the probe, swirl gently, and wait for the reading to stabilise before adjusting your meter to 2.76 mS/cm.
Frequency
Recalibrate roughly every two weeks with regular use, or more often if you're running a commercial system where dosing accuracy really matters.
Storage
Keep the bottle sealed and out of direct sunlight. Don't pour used fluid back into the bottle - always use a separate container for calibration to avoid contaminating the stock solution.

- Anyone running an EC controller or dosing pump where accuracy really matters
- New growers setting up their first meter and probe
- Commercial or multi-room setups doing regular calibration checks
Best suited to anyone who already owns an EC meter and wants to keep it accurate rather than guessing.
Our take
A calibration fluid doesn't need to be complicated, it just needs to be right, and Growth Technology's Conductivity Standard does the one job asked of it. At 2.76 mS/cm it gives you a solid reference point to check your meter against, and 300ml goes a long way for regular use.
Does exactly what it should, day in, day out. Worth having a bottle on the shelf next to your meter rather than finding out three weeks late that your readings have drifted.
