Growth Technology Root Riot Propagation Cubes — Peat-Based Seed & Cutting Medium Ready to Use
Best for: Growers starting seeds or rooting cuttings who want a reliable, pre-moistened propagation medium without the faff
Our thoughts
Root Riot cubes are the solid choice for propagation. Pre-moistened, inoculated with beneficial micronutrients, and built on 40 years of horticultural know-how. They consistently outperform the alternatives—rockwool, coco plugs, the lot. One we recommend a lot for growers serious about their rooting rates.
Root Riot Propagation Cubes are organic peat-based seedling cubes designed for both seeds and plant cuttings. They arrive pre-moistened and ready to use straight from the bag, with a stable pH of 6.0 and inoculated with RHP macro and trace elements to support healthy root development. The spongy texture holds the perfect balance of air and moisture—exactly what young roots need to strike fast and strong.
Unlike dry alternatives or synthetic materials, Root Riot saves you prep time and guesswork. No soaking delays, no pH adjustment headaches, no irritating fibres. Just drop your seed or cutting in and get on with it.
How it compares
-
vs. Rockwool/Stonewool: Rockwool requires pH adjustment (alkaline out of the bag), skin/lung irritation risk, and careful handling. Root Riot is ready-to-use at stable pH, completely safe, and biodegradable.
-
vs. Eazy Plug: Eazy Plug arrives dry and requires several hours of soaking before use. Root Riot is pre-moistened—no wait, no mess, ready immediately.
-
vs. Coco Coir Plugs: Coco is sustainable but lacks the biological inoculants Root Riot includes. Root Riot's added micronutrients give your seedlings a head start.
-
vs. Jiffy Pellets: Jiffy requires hydration and can lose structural integrity during transplanting. Root Riot stays bonded together, protecting delicate roots.
In plain terms: you're getting superior rooting performance with zero preparation required.
Usage guidance
For cuttings
Dip the cut end into rooting gel, then place gently into the pre-formed hole in the cube. Support just enough to hold it upright—don't force it in. Mist with a spray bottle and cover the tray with a humidity dome to maintain moisture. Keep the cube spongy and moist (never waterlogged) for 1–3 weeks depending on root development. Short, frequent misting cycles work best—low pressure, constant moisture, zero saturation.
For seeds
Place seed into the pre-formed hole and cover lightly with the cube material. Mist gently and cover with a humidity dome. Root Riot's air-to-water ratio creates the ideal germination environment. Keep moist but not soaked.
Moisture management
This is the key. Root Riot's spongy structure retains water naturally without becoming saturated. Check daily—the cube should feel moist like a wrung-out sponge. If it dries out completely, soak briefly in room-temperature water. If it stays waterlogged, you'll get rot. Aim for that sweet spot in between.
Transplanting
Once roots are developed (usually 1–3 weeks), the cube can be planted directly into pots, containers, hydroponic systems, or growing media. The biodegradable composition means no need to remove the cube—it breaks down naturally in soil or hydro setups.

Who this is for
- Growers starting seeds who want consistent, reliable germination
- Cutters rooting plant material and after the fastest possible strike rates
- Anyone who's had disappointing results with rockwool, coco, or dry plugs
- Growers running multiple propagation cycles where preparation time matters
- Serious hobbyists and semi-commercial operations needing bulk reliability
- Eco-conscious growers who want biodegradable, non-synthetic media
Particularly well suited to controlled environment setups where humidity and moisture control are tight—hydroponics, propagation chambers, heat mats.
Our take
Root Riot cubes are proper propagation media built on 40 years of grower feedback. They're pre-moistened, inoculated, pH-stable, and consistently outperform cheaper alternatives. You're not paying for marketing—you're paying for results.
If you're serious about rooting cuttings or starting seeds without drama, worth picking up while stock lasts. Does exactly what it should, and then some. Good time to grab a tray or bulk bag—propagation season waits for no one.
