AutoPot - Air Dome - Passive Root-Zone Aeration for AutoPot Systems
Best for: AutoPot growers who want to boost oxygen at the root zone without adding a pump, airline or extra power draw to their system.
Our thoughts
Roots need oxygen just as much as the top of the plant needs light, and it's easy to overlook in a bottom-fed AutoPot system where everything's happening under the media. The Air Dome is a cheap, simple way to get more air down to the root zone without adding electrics or moving parts to worry about. Small product, sensible upgrade.
The Air Dome is a dome-shaped piece of porous plastic mesh that sits in the root zone of an AutoPot module, housing a cross-section of porous tubing that lets air reach down where the roots are actively growing. Roots are the engine of the plant - when the root zone is well aerated, the extra oxygen availability supports stronger, healthier growth above ground.
Each Air Dome kit comes with the dome itself, four 2-inch sections of porous tubing, a cross connector to join the tubing sections, and a 50cm length of airline tubing to route air into the dome. It's designed to work with standard 3/16 inch ID (1/4 inch OD) clear vinyl airline tubing.
How it compares
The Air Dome takes a different approach to root-zone aeration than the more common active air-pump-and-airstone setup.
- Air stones paired with an air pump (the standard DWC aeration method) actively bubble air through the water, but need continuous power and a pump that can fail or need replacing.
- The Air Dome works passively within the AutoPot's existing wet/dry cycle, so there's no extra electricity draw and nothing mechanical to maintain.
- It's a lower-cost, lower-maintenance way to improve root-zone oxygen specifically within AutoPot-style gravity-fed systems, rather than a general-purpose aeration solution for any reservoir.
A cheap, no-power way to give AutoPot roots a bit more oxygen without adding another thing that can break.
Usage guidance
The Air Dome fits into an AutoPot module alongside your growing media.
Placement
Position the dome within the pot so the porous tubing sections sit in the root zone as the plant develops, giving roots direct access to the aerated area as they grow into it.
Connecting the tubing
Use the cross connector to join the porous tubing sections and run the 50cm airline tubing to route air into the dome, using standard 3/16 inch ID clear vinyl tubing for any extensions.
Ongoing care
Check the dome and tubing periodically for root intrusion or blockage, especially as the root mass fills out later in the grow.
Technical specifications
- Kit contents: 1x Air Dome, 4x 2-inch porous tubing sections, 1x cross connector, 1x 50cm airline tubing
- Compatible tubing: 3/16 inch ID (1/4 inch OD) clear vinyl
- Power required: none, passive aeration
- Compatible systems: AutoPot 1Pot, Easy2Grow and similar module-based systems
- Function: increases root-zone oxygen availability
Who this is for
- AutoPot growers wanting better root-zone oxygenation without adding power draw
- Anyone who's had issues with weak or slow root development in a bottom-fed system
- Growers who'd rather avoid the maintenance of an air pump and airstone setup
- Budget growers looking for a low-cost upgrade to an existing AutoPot module
Best suited to AutoPot systems where a simple, passive aeration boost is more practical than adding active air pumping.
Our take
A cheap, sensible little upgrade that fits neatly into what an AutoPot system is already doing, without adding anything else to plug in or maintain.
Reliable performance without overpaying for features you don't need - worth picking up if you want equipment you can rely on.
