Plagron Pure Zym — Enzyme Additive for Root Zone Health and Substrate Renewal
Best for: Growers wanting to keep their root zone clean, prevent disease, and get more life out of their growing media
Our thoughts
Pure Zym is one of those products that does a genuinely useful job without being complicated. It breaks down dead root material, cleans up the substrate, and keeps your growing environment healthier — all without needing a chemistry degree. One we recommend for growers running soil or coco, especially if they're reusing media.
Plagron Pure Zym is a concentrated enzyme additive designed to break down dead organic matter in your growing substrate, keeping your root zone clean and disease-free. It contains a stabilised blend of natural enzymes (cellulase, beta-glucanase, and pectinase) that work as biochemical catalysts, converting waste into available nutrients while promoting beneficial microbial life. At a 1:1000 dilution ratio, it's economical to use and works across all substrate types — soil, coco, peat, and blends.
How it compares
Pure Zym sits in the mid-tier of enzyme products by price, but punches above its weight on concentration and value.
- More concentrated than many competitors — lower per-application cost
- Specific focus on substrate renovation and disease prevention, not just growth acceleration
- Works with all soil types and coco media (unlike some hydro-only formulations)
- 9.2/10 rating from 400+ growers — proven track record over hype
Compared to branded alternatives, you're getting a proper enzyme product at a sensible price without paying for premium packaging.
Usage guidance
Basic dosing
Add 1 ml of Pure Zym per 1 litre of water (1:1000 ratio). Use this solution every time you irrigate, from start to finish of your growing cycle.
Soil and coco growing
Pure Zym works across the board — hand watering, drip systems, everything. Just add to your water and feed as normal. The enzymes will get to work breaking down dead root debris and opening up nutrient availability in the substrate.
Important note on hydro systems
Not suitable for closed-loop hydro (NFT, DWC, aeroponics). If you're using an irrigation system, flush the pipes after use. The organic nature means it's built for soil and media, not recirculating water.
What's normal
Don't panic if your diluted solution smells or looks cloudy — this is completely normal. It's the natural enzymes at work and won't harm your plants.

Our take
Pure Zym does what it says: breaks down dead matter, improves root zone conditions, and keeps your substrate healthier for longer. It's particularly smart if you're running tight media costs or want to extend the life of your growing materials.
Not essential for one-off cycles, but genuinely worth picking up if you're serious about substrate reuse or disease prevention. Simple to use, properly concentrated, and backed up by grower feedback. Good time to buy while stock lasts.
