Plagron Mega Worm — 100% Worm Castings Soil Improver for Organic Growing
Best for: Organic growers wanting to build living soil without synthetic nutrients or complicated feeding schedules
Our thoughts
This is proper worm castings from Dendrobena earthworms, and it does exactly what worm castings should — feed the soil life, not the plant directly. If you're moving towards organic growing or regenerating tired potting soil, Mega Worm punches above its weight at this price point. One we recommend a lot for growers ditching synthetic feeds.
Plagron Mega Worm is a 100% vermicompost amendment made from composted Dendrobena earthworm castings. Unlike synthetic nutrients that feed plants directly, worm castings work by stimulating soil biology — they're loaded with beneficial microbes, enzymes, mycorrhiza and trichoderma that unlock nutrients already in your soil and convert organic matter into plant-available food. The result is slower, steadier plant development, better soil structure, improved water retention, and significantly less risk of nutrient burn.
This is the organic soil builder's shortcut. You're not replacing a feeding schedule — you're replacing the need for one by establishing a living, self-regulating growing medium.
How it compares
Worm castings sit in a different category to both compost and synthetic nutrients.
-
vs. Compost: More concentrated biology, higher microbial activity, more expensive per litre, but requires less volume (typically 10-20% of total soil mix)
-
vs. Synthetic nutrients: No burn risk, works slower, builds soil long-term, eliminates guesswork on feeding rates, CU certified organic
-
vs. Premium UK vermicompost brands: Same functional biology at a lower price — you're getting the benefit of bulk manufacturing, not fresher product claims or local sourcing markup
Mega Worm is straightforward vermicompost. No marketing noise, no "living vs. dead" positioning — just castings that work.
Usage guidance
Mega Worm is mixed into soil, not applied as a liquid feed. Here's how growers use it:
Building potting soil mixes
Mix 10-20% Mega Worm into your base potting soil. For a 100-litre batch, add 10-20 litres of worm castings and blend thoroughly. This establishes soil biology from the start of the growing cycle.
Top dressing established plants
Apply 100 grams around the base of a 10-litre pot, work it into the top inch of soil, and water in lightly. The soil life will gradually integrate it over 2-3 weeks.
Regenerating old potting soil
If you're reusing potting soil from previous crops, Mega Worm restores microbial activity and refreshes nutrient cycling. Mix at 15-20% of total volume and let it settle for 1-2 weeks before planting.
Compost tea (steep method)
Some growers steep Mega Worm in water to create a microbial-rich liquid for soil drenching or foliar application. Use sparingly — it's potent.
Important: Mega Worm doesn't dissolve and won't flow through drip irrigation or auto-watering systems. It's a soil additive only, not a nutrient solution.

Our take
Mega Worm is proper vermicompost at a sensible price. It does what worm castings should — establish soil biology, unlock nutrients, and take the stress out of feeding. If you're building organic soil or sick of synthetic nutrients, this is a solid entry point that works consistently.
End-of-line stock, so you're getting real worm castings at a much lower price than usual. Good time to buy while clearance stock lasts.
