Omega 1000w 400v Digital Pro Dimmable Ballast - Six-Step Digital Control for DE Lamps
Best for: growers running a 1000W 400V DE HPS or CMH lamp who want to dim output for veg, protect lamp lifespan, and cut running costs when full power isn't needed.
Our thoughts
A digital ballast that lets you dial power up or down is genuinely useful, not just a nice-to-have - it means one ballast covers veg and flower, and you're not stuck running full 1000W when your plants don't need it yet. Soft-start electronics are kinder to your lamp too, so it should last longer than it would on a cheap magnetic ballast. Solid, sensible kit.
The Omega 1000w 400v Digital Pro Dimmable Ballast is a digital electronic ballast built to power 1000W 400V double-ended (DE) HID lamps. Unlike a fixed-output magnetic ballast, it gives you six output settings - 600W, 660W, 750W, 825W, 1000W and a 1200W super-lumens boost setting - selected with a simple power switch. That range means you can run lower output during early veg to save on electricity and reduce stress on younger plants, then wind it up to full power or the super-lumens boost once plants are established and flowering.
It uses soft-start technology, which reduces the voltage spike lamps get on start-up and helps extend lamp life. It's supplied with a 1 metre mains lead and a flying IEC lead to connect to a DE reflector, is CE certified, wall-mountable, and comes with a 2-year warranty.
How it compares
Digital dimmable ballasts have mostly replaced magnetic ballasts in DE setups, and this sits at the budget end of that digital category.
- Lumatek's digital DE ballasts offer similar dimming ranges but at a noticeably higher price point
- Maxibright Digilight ballasts add app-based control, which this doesn't have, but cost more for that feature
- Against an old-style magnetic ballast, this is lighter, quieter, more efficient, and gives you dimming control a magnetic unit simply can't do
If you want proper dimming control on a DE 1000W lamp without paying for smart-app features you may not use, this covers the essentials.
Usage guidance
Wiring up
Connect the ballast's flying IEC lead to your DE reflector's input lead, then plug the 1 metre mains lead into a suitably rated socket - wall-mount the ballast away from moisture and direct heat.
Setting output
Use the power-output switch to pick the wattage that suits the growth stage - lower settings (600-750W) for veg or heat-sensitive rooms, 1000W for main flower, and the 1200W super-lumens setting only in the final flowering stretch if your extraction can keep pace with the extra heat.
Lamp care
Let the soft-start cycle complete before switching off again if you need to power-cycle the lamp, and avoid running a lamp well past its rated hours even on a dimmed setting.

Who this is for
- Growers running a 1000W 400V DE reflector and lamp who want dimming flexibility
- Anyone switching from magnetic to digital ballast technology for efficiency and lamp protection
- Growers who want a single ballast to cover veg through to peak flower output
Best suited to growers already committed to the DE 400V format who want proper control over output.
Our take
This is a properly specified digital ballast with a genuinely useful dimming range, soft-start protection, and the certification and warranty you'd want on something running mains power to a 1000W lamp. It's not the cheapest ballast on the market, but for a dimmable DE unit it's priced sensibly.
One we sell a lot of for new growers moving into DE lighting for the first time - proper kit at a much lower price than the big-name digital ballasts.
