IWS Trident Flood & Drain Grow System — Modular Hydroponics with Tool-Free Setup
Best for: Growers scaling up from 6 to 48 pots who want serious results without the assembly headache
Our thoughts
The Trident is what happens when IWS listens to growers and actually fixes the annoying bits. Bottom feed, cloth pots, push-fit everything, built-in drainage—it strips away the faffing and leaves you with a system that just works. One we recommend a lot for growers ready to step up to flood and drain.
The IWS Trident Flood & Drain system is a modular ebb and flow hydroponic setup designed to eliminate the complexity most growers dread. Using bottom-feed technology, cloth inner pots, and tool-free push-fit connections, it delivers the performance of flood and drain hydroponics without the usual setup grief. Whether you're running 6 pots or scaling to 48, the Trident adapts to your space and your budget—and it does exactly what it should, day in, day out.
How it compares
Against other flood and drain systems in its class, the Trident sits firmly in the simplified-setup category while keeping serious performance:
- Bottom-feed design prevents root blockages—roots can't grow down the pipes
- Only IWS system compatible with cloth inner pots for superior root oxygenation
- Push-fit fittings mean no tools, no leaks from over-tightening, faster assembly
- Built-in risers remove the need for external stands
- Faster than IWS Standard systems, easier to set up than IWS Pro Remote
In plain terms: if you want flood and drain performance without spending half your time troubleshooting plumbing, this is the one.
Usage guidance
System operation
Nutrient solution pumps from your FlexiTank to the Control Unit (brain pot). As it fills, gravity feeds solution to all Trident pots simultaneously via 25mm pipework. A float valve in the Control Unit stops the flow when filled—no overfill risk. On drain, everything flows back to the tank to be recirculated.
Flood cycle timing
The included 1-minute timer lets you set flood duration and frequency. Most growers run 15–30 minute floods, 2–4 times daily depending on media and stage. Timer has a 2m lead so you can position it outside the grow room.
Media compatibility
Works with clay pebbles, coco, rockwool, or mixed substrates. The cloth inner pots promote air pruning and root density—that's where the Trident really shines.
Root management
Root rods at the pot base guide roots through the cloth, preventing them from blocking drainage. Tie-back rings on the outer rim let you spread canopy width as plants grow.

Who this is for
- Intermediate growers ready to step up from hand-watering or drip systems
- Growers wanting cloth pot benefits without sourcing them separately
- Anyone scaling from small spaces to larger operations without replacing the entire system
- Operators who value tool-free assembly and minimal troubleshooting
- Growers running diverse media—clay pebbles, coco, rockwool, or mixed setups
Particularly suited to spaces where growth speed matters, hand-watering time doesn't, and you'd rather get plants in than spend the weekend plumbing.
Our take
The Trident is IWS finally building what growers actually asked for. Bottom feed stops root blockages. Cloth pots boost root health. Push-fit everything means you're up and running fast. It's the sweet spot between bulletproof reliability and getting out of your own way.
Worth picking up if you're serious about flood and drain but sick of the assembly nonsense. Does the job properly.
