Isomax Silencer Fan — Powerful, Quiet Extraction Without the Premium Price
Best for: Growers who need serious airflow but can't have a loud extraction fan rattling the neighbourhood
Our thoughts
We bought heavy on this one, so you benefit. Isomax fans have earned their reputation — they move proper volumes of air while staying whisper-quiet, and they handle carbon filters without the usual airflow penalty. Thirty years of German engineering, proven track record, and they just work. One we sell a lot of for growers serious about noise control.
The Isomax Silencer Fan is a professional-grade inline extraction fan built around Swiss-engineered motor technology and integrated acoustic insulation. Unlike standard duct fans that scream under load, this one delivers high-volume air movement at whisper-quiet noise levels — which matters if you're in a residential area, shared housing, or anywhere noise pollution isn't an option. The metal housing is lined with thick foam insulation, the motor uses a stator-rotor system for efficiency, and the whole unit is remarkably lightweight for something this powerful. Available in 6", 8", 10", and 12" sizes, with built-in speed control on the smaller models so you're not buying a separate controller.
How it compares
Isomax sits in the professional mid-to-premium acoustic fan bracket. Here's the honest breakdown:
-
vs. standard inline fans: You're paying more upfront, but getting silent operation — standard fans are noisy, Isomax fans aren't
-
vs. acoustic box fans (Tornado, S&P): Box fans might be slightly quieter in absolute decibels, but they're heavier, harder to mount, and don't move air as efficiently per size — Isomax gives you better airflow-to-noise ratio and easier installation
-
vs. EC fans (SystemAir Vector, Rhino): EC technology is more energy-efficient long-term, but costs significantly more upfront and requires specialist controllers — Isomax is simpler, proven, and less fussy
-
The Isomax advantage: Minimal airflow drop when you attach a carbon filter (something that kills standard fans), Swiss motor reliability, and a 30-year track record in the UK market
Bottom line: you're getting serious extraction capability at a price that makes sense compared to box fans or premium EC options.
Usage guidance
Installation position
Mount the Isomax after your carbon filter in the extraction chain. Stale air gets pulled through the filter and away from your grow area via the fan, then ducted outside. The unit comes with two hanging fittings on either side — use rope ratchets to suspend it properly and minimise vibration noise.
Ducting setup
Keep your duct run simple, short, and as straight as possible. If you're using flexible ducting, stretch it fully to remove folds and kinks — folds = resistance = noise. Insulated or acoustic ducting reduces vibration noise further.
Carbon filter compatibility
This is where Isomax shines. Unlike other inline fans that lose serious airflow when you attach a filter, the Isomax pressure rating means you get minimal drop. That's why it's a favourite for filtered extraction setups.
Speed control
6" and 8" models come with a built-in 3-speed controller. Larger 10" and 12" models are available in high/low speed versions. You can run lower speeds for quieter operation during light hours, then ramp up if needed — or stick it on low and forget about it.
Day-to-day operation
Switch it on and let it work. Built-in thermal protection prevents overheating, so it's safe to run continuously. Maintenance is practically zero once installed — no regular servicing needed.

Construction & Design:
- Full metal housing with integrated foam-lined acoustic insulation
- Swiss-quality energy-saving motor (Ruck Etaline series base)
- Stator-rotor motor technology for high airflow at low power draw
- Two integrated hanging fittings for easy mounting
- Pre-attached 1m+ power lead, 3-pin plug
- Remarkably lightweight compared to box-type acoustic fans
Safety & Durability:
- Thermal switch prevents overheating during continuous operation
- Reported lifespan: 5–8+ years of continuous duty is normal
- Minimal maintenance required post-installation
Who this is for
- Growers in residential or shared housing where noise is a real concern
- Urban setups where noise complaints could be a problem
- Anyone running a carbon filter system and wanting to avoid the airflow penalty
- Experienced growers who value reliability and minimal fuss
- First-time buyers who want to get extraction right from day one without needing separate speed controllers
- Setups where mounting space is tight (lightweight design helps here)
If you've had a cheap fan that screams or died within a year, or if you're tired of noise complaints from neighbours, this is a different class of equipment.
Our take
Isomax fans have earned their reputation. They move proper air, stay quiet, and handle carbon filters without losing performance. Yes, you'll pay more than a standard duct fan, but once installed they just work — and they'll work for years without drama. The 3-speed controller on 6" and 8" models is a proper feature; larger growers get high/low options. Build quality is professional, noise levels are genuinely low, and the pressure performance with filters actually matters if you're running extraction properly.
If noise control is part of your setup, or you just want extraction that won't die in two years, worth picking up while clearance stock lasts. Does exactly what it should, day in, day out.
