FloraFlex Matrix Pads - Capillary Wicking Pads for Even Moisture Spread
Best for: growers running the FloraFlex Matrix system who want feed wicked evenly across the growing medium surface instead of pooling in one spot.
Our thoughts
This is the consumable half of the Matrix system, and it's easy to overlook because it's just a mat. But it's doing the actual spreading work, wicking feed out from under the disc across the whole pot surface. Treat it as a between-crop replacement item rather than a one-off buy and the system keeps performing the way it's meant to.
The FloraFlex Matrix Pad is a non-woven capillary mat that sits beneath the Matrix Disc, wicking and spreading water and nutrient solution evenly across the surface of the growing medium. It's the part of the Matrix system that turns a single point of feed from the Circulator into full-surface coverage.
By spreading moisture evenly rather than letting it soak straight down in one spot, the pad helps prevent channeling and dry pockets forming in the medium as roots establish, keeping the whole root zone at a more consistent moisture level through the crop.
How it compares
Capillary wicking is a well-understood way of spreading moisture evenly, and the Matrix Pad applies it specifically to top-feed pots.
- Vs feeding straight onto bare medium from a single dripper: without a wicking layer, feed soaks straight down in one column rather than spreading sideways
- Vs generic capillary matting cut to size for propagation trays: the Matrix Pad is purpose-shaped (round or square) to match FloraFlex's Disc and Circulator rather than needing to be trimmed
- Vs a passive top-feed tray system like Autopot: different mechanism, a capillary pad under an active circulator versus a saturated tray, same underlying goal of even moisture distribution
It's a simple, inexpensive part, but it only does its job properly when paired with the matching Disc and Circulator above it.
Usage guidance
Fitting and replacing the pad correctly matters more than most growers expect.
Fitting under the disc
Lay the pad flat against the surface of the growing medium, then place the Matrix Disc directly on top so the Circulator feeds down through the disc into the pad evenly.
Replacing between crops
Treat the pad as a consumable, replace it at the start of each new crop rather than reusing a soiled or compacted one, which won't wick evenly any more.
Sizing
Match the pad size (round or square, and diameter) to your pot size and Matrix Disc, an undersized pad won't cover the full surface.

Who this is for
- Growers running the FloraFlex Matrix top-feed system
- Multi-pot growers wanting consistent moisture across every plant
- Commercial growers who replace consumables on a set schedule
Best suited to growers already committed to the Matrix system rather than a standalone buy.
Our take
It's a modest, low-cost part, but it's doing real work inside the Matrix system. Stock up on a few packs at once since it's a between-crop consumable, not a one-off purchase.
Does exactly what it should, day in, day out, as part of the wider Matrix setup. Worth having spares on the shelf.
