Ecothrive Coco 70/30 Lite Mix - Pre-Buffered Coco and Perlite Blend with Charge (1%)
Best for: Growers who want a light, well-aerated coco medium for young plants and freshly rooted cuttings, pre-charged with a natural biostimulant.
Our thoughts
This is the lighter end of Ecothrive's coco range, and it earns that "lite" name honestly, the extra perlite means better drainage and aeration, which suits young roots that don't want to sit wet. The 1% Charge mixed through it gives seedlings and cuttings a gentle, slow-release boost without needing to feed heavily from day one.
Ecothrive Coco 70/30 Lite Mix is a pre-mixed growing medium made from 70% coco coir and 30% perlite, with 1% Ecothrive Charge, a natural mealworm frass biostimulant and soil conditioner, blended through it. The added perlite gives the mix noticeably better drainage and aeration than a pure coco coir product, which suits smaller pots and younger plants that are more vulnerable to overwatering.
The Charge content counteracts coco's natural tendency to hold onto calcium, magnesium and nitrogen, helping young plants access nutrients more readily, while also feeding beneficial soil biology. Because it's supplied pre-mixed and pre-buffered, it's ready to use straight from the bag, no separate charging or buffering step needed, and the light fertilisation level makes it particularly well suited to freshly rooted cuttings and seedlings rather than mature, heavy-feeding plants.
How it compares
Coco/perlite blends sit between pure coco coir and soil in terms of drainage and feeding flexibility, and this one is positioned at the lighter end of that range.
- More free-draining and aerated than Ecothrive's own 100% Coco Pro mix, thanks to the added 30% perlite, making it better suited to young plants and cuttings specifically.
- A comparable format to Canna Coco or Plagron Coco blends in the broader coco-growing category, with the Ecothrive Charge biostimulant as the differentiating ingredient.
- The pre-mixed, pre-buffered format saves the step of blending your own coco/perlite ratio and adding a separate biostimulant.
If you want a lighter, better-draining coco medium specifically for young plants, with a biostimulant already worked through it, this saves assembling that combination yourself.
Usage guidance
Potting up
Fill your pot or tray, break up any compressed lumps, and settle the mix by gently tapping the container before planting your cutting or seedling.
Early feeding
Because of the slow-release nutrition from the Charge content, you can start a light coco-specific feed from day one, keeping the EC low, around 1.2 mS/cm, for young plants.
pH management
Maintain your feed solution in the standard coco pH range of roughly 5.8-6.2 for optimal nutrient uptake.
Watering
The added perlite drains faster than pure coco, so water little and often rather than heavily and infrequently, particularly for young plants in smaller pots.

Our take
A well-judged lighter coco mix for the stage of growth where drainage and gentle nutrition matter most, young roots. The built-in Charge content means less guesswork on early feeding.
Straightforward to use straight from the bag. One we sell a lot of for growers starting cuttings and seedlings in coco.
