Canna Coco Professional Plus 50 Litres - Fully Buffered Coco Substrate
Best for: Coco growers who want a fully pre-buffered, ready-to-use substrate rather than one they have to condition themselves.
Our thoughts
This is CANNA's flagship coco for a reason - it's fully buffered before it ever reaches you, so there's no waiting around for the medium to settle before it behaves properly. One we sell a lot of for new growers who want fewer variables to manage in their first few coco grows.
Canna Coco Professional Plus is made from 100% coco flakes, sourced from specially selected prime Indian coconuts and processed without the material ever touching outdoor ground, which keeps it free of weeds and soil disease. It carries the strict R.H.P. quality mark, an independent standard that covers the whole production chain from raw material to bag, not just the finished product.
It contains 45% wood cellulose, which helps the substrate hold its physical structure through a full grow rather than breaking down, and has a water-to-air ratio of 73%/23% tuned for fast root development. The key difference from CANNA's other coco substrate is the buffering: Professional Plus is fully buffered during manufacture, which neutralises the natural tendency of raw coir to lock up some of the nutrients you feed it, so what you put in is what the plant actually gets.
How it compares
Coco substrates mostly differ in how much of the buffering work has already been done for you.
- CANNA's own Coco Natural is a lighter-buffered, more raw version of the same coco flakes, for growers who want to manage that process themselves
- Plagron Coco takes a similarly pure-coco approach aimed at growers running their own nutrient line on top
- BioBizz's All-Mix and Light-Mix are coco-and-compost blends with nutrients already worked in, a different philosophy to Professional Plus's clean, unamended base
Professional Plus sits at the convenient end of the coco spectrum: more processing done for you, in exchange for a bit less room to fine-tune the buffering yourself.
Usage guidance
A few habits get the most out of a fully buffered coco medium.
Pot size
Use pots of at least 5 litres - the larger the pot, the more stable the root environment stays as the plant grows.
First watering
Drip-feed with a light nutrient solution (around 2ml CANNA Coco A and 2ml Coco B per litre, pH 5.2-6.2) until you see drain from the base of the pot.
Feeding
Pair it with CANNA's own Coco A&B range, designed specifically for this substrate, for the most predictable results.
Reuse
It can be used more than once and makes a decent potting mix improver afterwards, rather than being a single-use product.

Who this is for
- New coco growers who want a substrate that behaves predictably from day one
- Growers who don't want to spend the first week of a grow correcting buffering issues
- Anyone building a full CANNA Coco A&B feeding programme
- Growers who want to reuse substrate across a couple of cycles
Best suited to growers who'd rather the hard work of buffering was already done, rather than doing it themselves.
Our take
Professional Plus takes one of the trickier parts of coco growing - getting the buffering right - and does it for you before the bag is even opened, which is exactly what newer growers want out of a substrate.
One we sell a lot of for new growers, and a sensible pick if you want coco that just gets on with the job.
