BioBizz Light-Mix Peat-Free is a gentler, lower-nutrient version of All-Mix, built specifically for the early stages of a plant's life - germinating seeds, rooting cuttings, and growing on young plants before they're ready for a heavier medium or feed. Like All-Mix Peat-Free, it swaps peat for composted bark, coir, perlite and other renewable materials, but carries a lighter nutrient charge so it doesn't overwhelm delicate young root systems.
Because young plants are especially sensitive to over-feeding, Light-Mix is designed to support healthy early root development without pushing too much nutrition at once. Many growers use it as a starting medium before transplanting into All-Mix or a similar richer soil once the plant is established and able to use more feed.
How it compares
Light-Mix fills the "starter medium" role that most soil ranges have a dedicated product for.
- Canna Terra Start is a similar lighter-feed starter medium aimed at seedlings and cuttings, generally peat-based rather than peat-free.
- Plain seed and cutting compost (like Levington's seed compost) is cheaper but carries little to no built-in nutrient charge, meaning you need to start feeding sooner.
- Using BioBizz's own All-Mix Peat-Free from seed is generally too strong for very young plants - Light-Mix exists specifically to avoid that.

Germination and cuttings
Sow seeds or place cuttings directly into Light-Mix - its lower nutrient charge is gentle enough for developing roots.
Early growth
Continue growing young plants in Light-Mix with plain water or a very light feed until they're established with a healthy root system.
Transplanting on
Once plants are growing strongly, transplant into a richer medium such as All-Mix Peat-Free, or begin a standard feed programme if keeping them in Light-Mix longer term.
Watering
Keep the medium evenly moist but not waterlogged - young roots are more sensitive to both drought and overwatering than mature plants.
