Shogun Zenzym — Enzyme Additive for Root Zone Health and Media Recycling
Best for: Growers wanting to keep their root zone clean, recycle growing media, and get more life out of their systems
Our thoughts
Zenzym does something most nutrient additives don't — it actually lets you recycle your media instead of binning it. The enzyme blend is solid, it's made by a UK company with proper commercial testing behind it, and it costs less than the big names. One we recommend a lot for growers running multiple cycles or trying to cut waste costs without compromising root health.
Shogun Zenzym is an enzyme additive that breaks down dead root material in your substrate, releasing locked-up nutrients back to your plants whilst creating space for new root growth. It's a working product that does three jobs at once: keeps your root zone healthy during growing cycles, lets you recycle media up to four times instead of dumping it, and helps maintain your hydroponic systems by clearing biofilm and debris. Simple, practical, properly tested.
How it compares
Zenzym sits in the mid-tier of enzyme products, competing with Canna Cannazym and Advanced Nutrients Sensizym.
- UK-made by a company with long commercial growing experience, not just rebranded formula
- Significantly cheaper than premium branded enzymes without compromising enzyme blend quality
- Stronger media recycling positioning — lets you reuse substrate properly, which the premium brands don't emphasise
- Works across all media types and hydroponic systems, unlike some competitors
Usage guidance
During growing cycles
Add 2.5ml per litre of water to your nutrient solution throughout vegetative and flowering stages. Apply it consistently — the enzymes work best when kept working. For fastest results, keep your growing space above 30°C; the enzymes accelerate in warmth.
Media recycling (the money-saver)
Remove as much of the old root ball as you can from your spent media, then drench it with Zenzym at up to 10 times normal strength (25ml per litre). Keep it moist for around 24 hours in a warm space. The enzyme blend breaks down all the dead root matter, pathogenic material, and compacted substrate, turning it back into living, aerated media. You'll get 3-4 full cycles from one batch of coco or soil instead of one.
System maintenance
Run Zenzym through recirculating systems and dripper setups at normal dose. It clears biofilm buildup in pipes and breaks down organic debris that clogs pumps. Extends equipment life by months.

Our take
Zenzym is a straightforward enzyme product that does what it's supposed to do. The real value is media recycling — most growers bin their substrate and buy fresh every cycle. With Zenzym, you're getting 3-4 cycles from the same batch. Over a year, that's genuine money saved.
It's made in the UK, tested in commercial grows, and costs less than you'd expect for that pedigree. Use it as part of your standard feed schedule, or pull it out for system maintenance when you need it. Worth picking up, especially if you're planning to recycle media. Good time to buy while stock lasts.
