Plant Success Great White Mycorrhizae - Root Inoculant with 15 Fungi Species
Best for: growers wanting to build a stronger root system and improve nutrient uptake from transplant onward.
Our thoughts
Great White is one of the better-known root inoculants for a reason - it's not just mycorrhizal fungi, it's fungi plus beneficial bacteria plus Trichoderma in one product, which most single-strain inoculants don't offer. Genuinely useful at transplant time, and the smaller sizes make it easy to try without committing to a big tub.
Plant Success Great White Mycorrhizae is a root inoculant powder combining 15 species of mycorrhizal fungi, 19 species of beneficial bacteria and 2 species of Trichoderma, along with plant vitamins and glycine, in a single water-soluble formula. Mycorrhizal fungi form a symbiotic relationship with plant roots, extending the root system's effective reach into the surrounding growing medium and improving water and nutrient uptake, particularly phosphorus.
It's designed to be applied directly to the root zone at transplant or when potting up, so the fungi can begin colonising roots as early as possible - mycorrhizal relationships take time to establish, so earlier application generally gives better results than adding it later in the plant's life.
How it compares
Mycorrhizal inoculants vary a lot in how many organisms they actually combine.
- Broader-spectrum than Xtreme Gardening's own Mykos, which relies on a single mycorrhizal species (Glomus intraradices) rather than Great White's mix of fungi, bacteria and Trichoderma
- Covers similar ground to Canna's Rhizotonic in terms of root health support, though Rhizotonic works through root-stimulating compounds rather than living mycorrhizal colonisation
- A more complete, multi-organism formula than most single-strain root inoculants sold at a similar price
For root-zone biology in one product, it's one of the more complete formulas on the market.
Usage guidance
Transplanting
Dust the powder directly onto roots or into the planting hole at transplant, ensuring direct root contact so the fungi can begin colonising.
Potting up
Mix into the growing medium at the base of the new pot before transplanting, so roots grow directly into inoculated substrate.
Existing plants
Water in as a soil drench around the root zone of established plants, though results are generally slower and less pronounced than application at transplant.

Our take
Root health is one of those things that's easy to ignore until it's a problem, and Great White is a straightforward way to get ahead of it at the one point in a plant's life - transplant - where it makes the biggest difference. The smaller sizes make it easy to try without a big commitment.
One we sell a lot of for new growers building out a proper transplant routine.
