Growth Technology pH Probe Cleaner 300ml - Dilute Acid Soak for Grimy pH Probes
Best for: growers whose pH readings have started drifting or feel sluggish, and who want to properly clean the probe rather than replace it.
Our thoughts
A lot of "faulty" pH probes aren't faulty at all - they're just coated in salt and mineral build-up from months of dipping into nutrient solution. This is a cheap first step before you assume the worst and buy a new probe. Ten minutes with this and a soft brush sorts out most sluggish or drifting readings.
Growth Technology pH Probe Cleaner is a dilute hydrochloric acid solution designed to strip away the debris, dirt and salt build-up that accumulates on pH probes during normal use. Mineral deposits from nutrient solutions gradually coat the glass bulb and reference junction, slowing the probe's response and skewing its readings.
Regular cleaning restores accurate, fast readings and extends the working life of the probe. Growth Technology recommends cleaning at a minimum of once a month for probes in regular use, more often in hard water areas or commercial setups where mineral build-up happens faster.
How it compares
Probe cleaning solutions are a small, low-cost category, but skipping this step is one of the most common reasons growers think their meter has failed.
- Bluelab's Probe Clean is the closest branded equivalent, usually sold at a similar price but paired more tightly to Bluelab's own meter range.
- Hanna Instruments offers its own cleaning solution, typically at a comparable price point for a similar volume.
- Growth Technology's version works with any brand of pH probe, not just their own accessories.
There's no meaningful difference in what these solutions do chemically - the choice usually comes down to price and bottle size, and this one is competitively priced for 300ml.
Usage guidance
Soaking
Pour enough cleaner into a small container to fully cover the probe tip, and leave the probe to soak for one to two hours.
Cleaning
After soaking, gently clean the probe tip with a soft bristle brush or toothbrush to remove any remaining deposits.
Frequency
Clean at least once a month with regular use; increase frequency in hard water areas or high-use commercial setups.
After cleaning
Rinse the probe and store it wet, ideally in Growth Technology's pH Probe Refill & Storage Solution rather than dry.

Our take
Before you write off a pH probe as broken, this is the cheap, obvious thing to try first. Regular cleaning keeps readings accurate and stretches the working life of a part that isn't cheap to replace.
Does exactly what it should, day in, day out. Worth keeping a bottle on hand as routine maintenance rather than an emergency fix.
