Hotbox Sulfume Sulphur Vapouriser With Sulphur Powder — Thermostatically Controlled Fungal & Pest Prevention
Best for: Growers wanting reliable, chemical-free control of powdery mildew, botrytis, and spider mites without the risk of sulphur burn
Our thoughts
The Hotbox Sulfume is the industry standard for sulphur vaporisation, and there's good reason — it's the only one that guarantees no sulphur combustion. Use it as prevention during dark periods, and you'll avoid most mildew problems before they start. Best run on a timer when the room's empty.
The Hotbox Sulfume sulphur vapouriser is a thermostatically controlled heating device that vaporises sulphur powder slowly and safely into your grow space. Unlike cheaper sulphur burners that risk combustion and toxic byproducts, the Hotbox's regulated heating element maintains a precise temperature that releases pure sulphur vapour only — no smoke, no oxides, no damage.
Sulphur vapour works by altering leaf surface pH, making conditions hostile to powdery mildew spores, botrytis, and spider mites. Run it preventatively once a week during the dark period, and you'll stop most fungal problems before they take hold. For active infestations, increase frequency until control is achieved. This is the equipment commercial growers use — now at a price that makes sense for serious home cultivators.
How it compares
The Hotbox Sulfume sits at the premium end of sulphur vaporiser technology.
- Only unit on the market with patented temperature regulation that cannot overheat sulphur
- Voltage independent — works on any supply from 100-240V without performance loss
- Most energy-efficient sulphur vapouriser available (45W startup, under 50W running)
- Guaranteed no combustion products — pure sulphur vapour only
- Safe to touch during operation due to stainless steel design
- Budget alternatives (Grow1, Wilmod, EDYCARX) offer basic heating but lack temperature safeguards and voltage flexibility
You're paying for reliability and safety here — this is the kit that doesn't create problems while solving them.
Usage guidance
Setup and placement
Hang the Hotbox roughly in the centre of your grow space, at least 1 metre below the ceiling. This gives sulphur vapour room to dissipate evenly across the canopy. The unit sits on a standard 13-amp plug.
Running protocol
Always run the Hotbox during the dark period or when no one is in the room — sulphur vapour should not be inhaled. Switch off extraction fans and intake during treatment so vapour stays in the space to work. Best practice is to set it on a timer for the dark period.
Preventative use
Run once per week during high-risk seasons (cool, humid periods). One dose releases approximately 2 grams of sulphur over 8 hours — enough for thorough coverage across 100-1,000m² depending on room size and humidity levels.
Active infestation control
If mildew or mites are present, increase frequency to every dark period for 7-10 days until the situation is under control. Then revert to weekly preventative use.
Refuelling
Use only the supplied aluminium cups designed specifically for sulphur. Standard cups will not perform reliably. 500g and 2kg sulphur refill packs are available separately.
Harvest timing
Do not use the Hotbox within four weeks of harvest if the crop cannot be physically cleaned of residual sulphur dust. Plan treatment schedules accordingly.

- Safety feature: Safe to touch during operation; exterior stays cool due to stainless steel design
Who this is for
- Commercial greenhouse and nursery operators managing large crop areas
- Home cultivators who want professional-grade disease prevention without chemical sprays
- Growers in humid climates where powdery mildew and botrytis are persistent threats
- Anyone scaling up production who's had mildew problems with cheaper equipment
- Cultivators growing roses, strawberries, tomatoes, peppers, or gerbera — crops known for fungal susceptibility
- Serious growers who've invested in proper ventilation and want kit that matches that standard
Not ideal if you're looking for a quick spray solution — this is prevention and control over weeks, not hours.
Our take
The Hotbox Sulfume is the industry standard for good reason. It's the only sulphur vapouriser that guarantees safe operation with zero risk of combustion or toxic byproducts. That matters — cheap sulphur burners can create more problems than they solve if temperature control fails.
Energy-efficient, voltage-independent, and built to last. If you've had mildew issues before, or you're running a setup where prevention is cheaper than dealing with an outbreak, this is worth picking up. Run it on a timer during dark periods and you'll stop most fungal problems before they start.
