Hygrozyme — Bacteria-Free Enzyme Formula for Root Zone Health
Best for: Growers running hydro, coco, or soil systems who want to keep their root zone clean and prevent salt buildup without introducing living bacteria
Our thoughts
Hygrozyme is the real deal if you're serious about system maintenance. It's bacteria-free, which means unlimited shelf life and zero risk in sterile setups. It won't fix root rot, but used from day one it stops the conditions that cause it in the first place. Worth committing to if you run a tight ship.
Hygrozyme is a concentrated enzymatic formula designed to accelerate the breakdown of dead root matter and keep your growing medium clean. It's not a nutrient or a cure — it's preventative system maintenance that works across all growing media types. Built using a proprietary bio-fermentation process, Hygrozyme delivers a bacteria-free blend of four core enzymes (cellulase, xylanase, hemicellulase, and beta-glucanase) that work synergistically to prevent biofilm and salt buildup. The result is a cleaner root zone, better nutrient availability, and less stress on your system.
How it compares
Hygrozyme occupies the premium preventative enzyme category — it's positioned differently to most competitors.
-
vs Cannazym: Cannazym is better at breaking down existing debris if you're playing catch-up; Hygrozyme keeps systems cleaner long-term from the start
-
vs Sensizym: Sensizym integrates with pH Perfect systems; Hygrozyme is universal but requires more pH management in DWC
-
vs budget enzyme powders: Hygrozyme's bacteria-free formula means no shelf life concerns and compatibility with hydrogen peroxide (up to 2ml/gallon) — most powders can't match that
- Uniquely hydrogen peroxide compatible, making it ideal for growers running sterile protocols
You're paying for system longevity and peace of mind, not the cheapest breakdown rate.
Usage guidance
General feeding schedule (coco, hydro, soil)
Add 8–10 ml per 4 litres during regular nutrient changes. Don't exceed 15 ml per 4 litres. Use from week one through to week 5 of flowering (or equivalent in your growing cycle).
System flushing
Mix 0.4–0.5 ml per litre of water to clean your lines and tank. Stop using Hygrozyme one week before harvest — don't use it during final flush.
Seedling and cutting preparation
Soak rockwool cubes, plugs, or seedling trays with 6 ml per 4 litres of water before use. This prevents debris buildup from the start.
DWC and recirculating systems
Hygrozyme works in RDWC, but be prepared for pH shifts. Some growers report needing more frequent pH adjustment, particularly during 12/12 flowering. This is normal — the enzyme activity causes pH drift. Plan for weekly checks at minimum.
What not to do
Don't use in aquaponics systems or aerofog units. Don't mix with more than 2 ml/gallon of hydrogen peroxide. Hygrozyme is a complete enzyme blend — you don't need additional enzyme products.

Who this is for
- Growers running hydroponic or deep water culture systems who want to prevent salt and biofilm buildup
- Coco growers looking to keep their medium clean and prevent nutrient lockout from debris accumulation
- Anyone using hydrogen peroxide-based sterilisation protocols (unique compatibility advantage)
- Commercial or large-scale operations (particularly the concentrate version)
- Growers who understand enzymes are preventative, not curative — you need to commit from day one
- System-focused growers who prioritise equipment longevity and consistent performance over quick fixes
Our take
Hygrozyme is a proper preventative tool, not a problem-solver. Used consistently from the start of your growing cycle, it keeps your root zone clean, prevents debris-related disease pressure, and extends the life of your system. The bacteria-free formula is genuinely useful if you're running sterile protocols or using hydrogen peroxide. Yes, it costs more than budget enzyme powders, but you're paying for reliability, shelf life, and the ability to maintain a truly clean system.
If you're serious about system maintenance and don't mind the pH management overhead in DWC setups, this is worth committing to. Good time to buy while clearance stock lasts.
