House & Garden Aqua Flakes A&B — Concentrated Two-Part Base Nutrient for Recirculating Hydroponics
Best for: Growers running NFT, flood and drain, DWC, or aeroponics who need pH-stable nutrients that won't clog their system
Our thoughts
This is one we see in systems that are dialled in properly. It's built for recirculating setups where nutrient solution gets recycled day after day, which means pH stability and clean lines matter far more than chasing PPM numbers. Aqua Flakes does that job without drama — no sediment, no salt buildup, no constant tinkering. Serious hydro kit.
House & Garden Aqua Flakes A&B is a two-part concentrated hydroponic base nutrient engineered specifically for recirculating systems where the same nutrient solution cycles continuously through your plants. Unlike generic all-purpose feeds, Aqua Flakes is formulated to stay stable in solution, prevent salt buildup, and maintain consistent pH and EC levels — exactly what a closed-loop system demands.
Made in House & Garden's own Dutch manufacturing facility with quality control testing on every batch, the formulation contains no dyes, synthetic growth regulators, or detectable heavy metals. The extremely concentrated mix means you're getting more nutrient per litre, fewer bottles to store, and better value across the growing cycle.
How it compares
Aqua Flakes sits in the premium mid-range of recirculating specialists.
- Same one-formula approach throughout veg and bloom — no need to swap nutrients mid-cycle
- Lower salt formulation reduces buildup in tanks and keeps drippers flowing clean
- Extremely concentrated (8ml per litre of water) — more efficient than dilute alternatives
- Superior pH stability in closed-loop systems compared to generic hydro feeds
- Two-part design prevents nutrient binding that can lock up calcium, magnesium, and trace elements
Against premium competitors like CANNA Aqua, you're trading "plants self-regulate pH" for simplicity and cost efficiency. Against budget options, you're gaining system-specific engineering and manufacturing transparency.
Usage guidance
System compatibility
Designed for NFT channels, flood and drain tables, deep water culture, and aeroponics. Not formulated for run-to-waste systems.
Mixing — critical step
Fill your nutrient tank two-thirds with water. Add Aqua Flakes A and mix thoroughly. Then add Aqua Flakes B and mix again. Top up the tank. Adjust pH to 5.5–6.2 using pH up or down. Do not add A and B simultaneously — this triggers a chemical reaction that creates sediment and incomplete nutrient availability. Do not use an air pump in the nutrient tank; this destabilises the formulation.
Dosage
Standard strength: 4ml of A and 4ml of B per litre of water. This delivers approximately 100 PPM. Dosage can be adjusted to lighter or heavier strengths depending on plant demand and system response.
Growing cycle
Use the same A&B formula from seedling through to late flowering. Strength can be increased as plants develop, but the formulation ratio stays constant — no nutrient swaps needed.
Nutrient addition
Aqua Flakes works as a standalone base nutrient. Optional House & Garden boosters like Roots Excelurator can be added to the solution after the A&B mix is balanced.

Who this is for
- Intermediate to advanced growers running permanent recirculating systems
- Anyone operating NFT, flood and drain, or DWC setups where consistency prevents downtime
- Growers who want reliable pH stability without daily tank adjustments
- Operators looking to minimise salt accumulation and system maintenance
- Hydro specialists who value manufacturing transparency and quality control
- Anyone wanting a single nutrient formula that covers the full growing cycle
Not suited to beginners or run-to-waste systems, but ideal for growers who understand their setup and want it to behave predictably.
Our take
Aqua Flakes is professional-grade hydroponic nutrition that actually lives up to the claim. Built specifically for systems where your nutrient solution circulates continuously, it stays clean in the tank, doesn't clog lines, and holds pH far more steadily than generic alternatives. The two-part design keeps essential minerals from binding up, and the Dutch manufacturing means every batch is properly tested.
If you're running a serious recirculating setup and want fewer problems in the tank, this is worth picking up while stock lasts. One we sell a lot of to growers who've moved beyond guessing and into precision hydro.
