Canna Hydro Vega HW A&B — Two-Part Vegetative Nutrient for Hard Water Run-to-Waste Systems
Best for: Growers using run-to-waste hydroponic systems in hard water areas who want reliable vegetative growth without mineral lockout
Our thoughts
Hard water can wreck your nutrient balance if you're not using the right feed. This HW version does the heavy lifting for you — it's formulated to work with what's already in your tap water instead of fighting it. Mix it properly, dial in your EC, and it stays predictable. This is the feed serious hydro growers on hard water actually choose.
Canna Hydro Vega HW A&B is a two-part hydroponic base nutrient built specifically for the vegetative stage in run-to-waste inert systems — clay pebbles, rockwool, and similar mediums — when you're growing on hard water. Unlike universal feeds, this formulation accounts for the calcium and magnesium already present in hard tap water, preventing the nutrient imbalances and lockouts that catch growers out. It delivers everything plants need for strong, compact growth without you having to second-guess your water chemistry.
How it compares
Canna Hydro sits at the proven, premium end of the vegetative nutrient market.
- Water-hardness specific formulation — the HW version is optimised for hard water areas, unlike generic A&B feeds
- System-specific design for run-to-waste hydro (different from Canna Aqua, which is for recirculating systems)
- Clean two-part mixing that won't precipitate or lock up when combined properly
- Trusted by both hobby and commercial growers for consistency and precision control
- Higher cost than budget alternatives (Vivosun, Humboldts Secret), but eliminates guesswork on hard water
If you're on hard water and using a soft-water feed, you're fighting an uphill battle. This removes that problem entirely.
Usage guidance
Mixing (critical)
Always add Part A to your reservoir water first and mix thoroughly. Then add Part B and mix again. Never combine the concentrates directly — they'll form insoluble compounds that plants can't use. Use equal amounts of A and B; unequal mixing creates nutrient imbalances.
Dosage
Start at 2ml per litre of each part A and B for small plants (EC 15). Increase to 4ml per litre of each part as plants grow (EC up to 24). This gradual approach prevents nutrient burn and lets you dial in exactly what your setup needs.
pH and monitoring
Target pH range 5.2–6.2. Hard water tends to push pH higher, so monitor and adjust accordingly. Maintain consistent EC rather than chasing strength — hard water works best with steady, predictable feeding.
Feeding schedule
In intensive drip systems, feed 1–3 times daily with 10–20% drain-to-waste. Flush the system with plain water every 1–2 weeks. Refresh your entire reservoir nutrient solution every 7 days for best results.
Switching to flowering
Use Canna Hydro Vega throughout veg and the first two weeks of flowering. Then switch to Canna Hydro Flores HW A&B for the rest of bloom.

Who this is for
- Run-to-waste hydro growers in hard water areas who are tired of nutrient lockout and imbalance
- Growers using clay pebbles, rockwool, or other inert substrates in drip or flood-and-drain systems
- Anyone wanting precision nutrient control without the complication of universal feeds on hard water
- Growers scaling from soil or coco to hydro and needing a forgiving, predictable veg nutrient
- Serious hobby and commercial growers who value consistency and proven results over lowest cost
Our take
This is the right nutrient if you're running hydro on hard water and you want veg growth that actually works. Canna's been doing this for decades, and it shows — the formulation takes hard water into account instead of pretending it doesn't exist. Mix it right, feed it steady, and it delivers exactly what it promises: strong, compact vegetative growth without calcium lockouts or surprise deficiencies.
It's more expensive than budget alternatives, but you're paying for a feed that actually works with your water rather than against it. If you've been struggling with consistency on hard water, worth picking up. One we sell a lot of to growers who've made the switch to proper run-to-waste hydro.
