Canna Coco Nutrient A&B — The Industry-Standard Two-Part Base for Coco Growing
Best for: Coco growers who want one reliable formula that covers seed to finish without switching bottles
Our thoughts
This is the nutrient that started it all for coco-specific feeding, and it's still the most popular choice for good reason. One formula works the whole cycle, the calcium and magnesium ratios are dialled for coco's quirks, and it delivers consistent results whether you're hand-watering or running automated systems. Stability beats complexity every time.
Canna Coco A&B is a two-part base nutrient formulated specifically for coco coir substrates. Unlike generic hydroponic feeds, this was designed from the ground up to match how coco handles nutrients — it contains elevated calcium and magnesium to compensate for coco's ion-exchange properties, plus natural chelates and humic acids that improve nutrient uptake across the full growing cycle.
The beauty is simple: one formula works from vegetative growth through to finish. You're not swapping Grow and Bloom bottles or juggling three-part systems. Mix A, mix B, keep your EC steady between 0.8 and 1.8 mS/cm, adjust pH to 5.5–6.5, and let it work. That's the point of proper coco nutrients — they do exactly what they should, day in, day out.
How it compares
Canna Coco A&B sits firmly in the premium-reliable tier of two-part coco nutrients.
- The original coco-specific formula — 20+ years of grower trust behind it
- Single formula for all growth stages (vs. Advanced Nutrients' separate Grow/Bloom bottles or 3-part complexity)
- Works equally well with hard or soft water — no reformulation needed
- More expensive than budget three-part options like General Hydroponics Flora, but saves money vs. swapping bottles mid-cycle
- Not suitable for recirculating hydro or high run-to-waste systems — designed for hand-watering and drain-to-waste with moderate runoff
Usage guidance
Hand-watering
Mix to 4 ml/L of both Part A and Part B. Start at the lower end (0.8 mS/cm EC) and adjust up gradually if plants respond well. Feed with 10–20% runoff to prevent salt buildup. Allow substrate to dry to roughly half weight between waterings.
Automated drip or drain-to-waste systems
Same dosing — 4 ml/L of A and B. Works cleanly in automated setups, though avoid systems with very high runoff rates (where potassium deficiency has been reported). Run to waste with moderate flow.
The full growing cycle
No bottle switching needed. Use the same ratio from seedling through flowering. Plants naturally uptake what they need at each stage — no guesswork required.
Critical mixing rules
Always measure Part A and Part B separately. Never pour concentrates into the same jug — they'll react and become unusable. Mix A into your water first, stir well, then add B. This separation is why two-part systems exist.
Water quality and pH
Adjust your nutrient solution pH to 5.5–6.5 for optimal coco uptake. If salts accumulate over time (white crusty buildup on substrate surface), flush through with plain water for 2–3 days.
Supplementation
Canna Coco A&B provides complete nutrition on its own. You can optionally layer in Canna Rhizotonic for root development or PK 13/14 for enhanced flowering, but they're not essential — this formula is self-sufficient.

- Anyone running hand-watered pots or automated drip systems with modest runoff
- Growers building a coco setup and wanting to pair nutrients with Canna Coco Professional Plus substrate
- Established growers tired of complexity who just want a proven system that works
- Anyone who values reliability and brand heritage over trendy alternatives
Our take
Canna Coco A&B is the industry standard for good reason — it was the first coco-specific nutrient ever made, and it's still the most popular with both hobbyists and professionals. One formula covers your entire cycle, the ratios are tuned to how coco actually behaves, and there's decades of grower feedback behind every batch.
If you want a nutrient that works consistently without overcomplication, this is worth picking up. It's not the cheapest option out there, but compared to swapping bottles or faffing with three-part feeds, it saves time and stress. Good time to buy while stock lasts.
