Wide Origin Systems — Active Drip Irrigation Hydroponics for Pot-Based Growing
Best for: Growers wanting hydroponic precision and bigger yields without ditching the simplicity of pots
Our thoughts
This is the workhorse of drip feed systems. Built on proven Dutch pot methodology, it gives you the feeding control of proper hydroponics with the familiarity of growing in pots. Set it up right, run it consistent, and you'll see yields jump compared to hand watering. One we sell a lot of to growers stepping up from basic setups.
Wide Origin Systems is a complete active drip irrigation hydroponics kit that automates feeding through multiple pots while recirculating nutrient solution back to the reservoir. Instead of guessing watering intervals or hand-feeding daily, the system drips nutrient solution into each pot on a timer, little and often. Runoff drains straight back into the reservoir — nothing wasted, no root rot, plants fed more consistently than traditional pot growing.
You get everything you need: pots (11L, 18L, or 25L depending on the model), a reservoir (30–180 litres), the tray, pump, and full irrigation pipework. Just add a timer, your chosen growing medium, nutrients, and you're running. No mystery, no guessing. The whole thing assembles in minutes.
How it compares
This sits firmly in the mid-market drip feed hydroponics space — accessible to serious hobbyists and small-scale growers, proven across both home and commercial setups.
- All-in-one integration: pump, reservoir, and dripper assembly in one system (unlike DIY builds)
- Scalable: multiple footprint options (small, wide, wide large, extra large) fit different grow spaces
- Proven design: based on the popular Dutch pot method, used and trusted by thousands of growers
- Self-contained: runoff recirculates, so you're not wasting solution or over-watering
- Better than hand watering: plants fed frequently produce significantly higher yields
- More affordable than large commercial RTA systems, but more capable than basic flood trays
Usage guidance
Initial setup
Assemble the tray, install the pots, fill the reservoir with mixed nutrient solution, fit the pump and timer. The system comes with two dripper types: arrow drippers (2L/hour) for absorbent media like coco, soil, or rockwool; flood drippers for denser media like clay pebbles. Fit the right dripper for your medium and you're done.
Programming the timer
The pump runs on a timer to feed multiple times daily. For absorbent media, 2–4 short feeds per day works well. For clay pebbles, you can run more frequent feeds. Start conservative, monitor plant response, adjust. The beauty of drip is you can dial it in without stress.
Growing media options
Works with coco, soil, rockwool, clay pebbles, or blends. Coco and clay are the most common. Coco holds more water, suits beginners. Clay pebbles give maximum control once you're confident. Mixed media works too.
Routine maintenance
Check water level weekly — the reservoir size means you're not refilling every day. Monitor EC and pH, adjust as needed. Keep the pump intake submerged and the dripper lines clear. At the end of a cycle, flush the system with fresh water before storing or changing media.
Recirculation — the key advantage
Any solution that drains from the pots goes straight back to the reservoir. Plants take what they need, and the rest cycles back. This is why yields jump compared to hand watering — consistent, little-and-often feeding without waste.

Who this is for
- Growers stepping up from hand-watering who want automation without complexity
- Experienced growers looking to dial in feeding precision and boost yields
- Anyone running 2–20+ pots where frequency and consistency matter
- Small to medium grow operations (home growers to semi-commercial setups)
- Growers who want the control of hydroponics but prefer the familiarity and flexibility of pots
- Busy growers who need the system to handle daily feeding reliably
Particularly well suited to growers who've outgrown basic setups and want a step-change in yield and consistency without the complexity of deep water culture or nutrient film technique.
Our take
This is one of the best-selling drip feed kits for good reason. It's straightforward, it works, and when you run it properly, the yield improvement over hand watering is undeniable. No hidden tricks, no unnecessary parts, no guessing. Set the timer, keep your feeding schedule consistent, and you'll get results.
If you're after automation that actually delivers — better growth, bigger harvests, and less daily work — worth picking up while we have stock. Does exactly what it should, season after season.
