Advanced Nutrients Coco Cultivator Pure 50 Litres - 100% RHP-Certified Coco Coir
Best for: Growers who want a clean, single-ingredient coco substrate with maximum water retention and no added perlite or clay pebbles.
Our thoughts
This is coco in its simplest form - no perlite, no clay, just certified coco coir. It holds the most water of the three Cultivator blends, which makes it the most forgiving if you're hand watering and can't check pots every day. Not fancy, just reliable.
Coco Cultivator Pure is a 100% coco coir growing medium sold in a 50 litre bag. It's RHP certified, meaning the coco has been washed, tested for pathogens and pre-buffered to keep EC low and stable from the moment you plant into it, rather than needing a rinse-and-soak process first. Coco coir itself is a byproduct of the coconut processing industry, and it's become one of the most widely used substrates in hydroponic growing because it holds water and nutrient well while still allowing decent root aeration compared to soil.
Because there's no perlite or clay pebble content diluting it, this is the most water-retentive of Advanced Nutrients' three Cultivator blends, so it's the one that copes best with irregular hand watering.
How it compares
Goes head to head with the established pure coco brands.
- Same basic proposition as Canna Coco Professional Plus or Plagron's pure coco lines - 100% RHP-certified coco coir with no added amendments
- Holds more water than either the Cultivator Mix (50/30/20) or Cultivator Plus (70/30) blends in the same range, at the cost of slightly less aeration
- Priced in line with, or below, the equivalent volume from the bigger-name pure coco brands
If you specifically want unmixed coco coir rather than a pre-blended substrate, this gives you that at a sensible price point.
Usage guidance
Pure coco needs slightly different handling to a perlite-boosted blend.
Watering
Water thoroughly and allow a small amount of runoff each time to prevent salt build-up - because this holds more water than the blended Cultivator products, you'll water less often, but each feed should be a proper soak.
Drainage checks
Make sure your pots or containers have good drainage holes, since pure coco doesn't have perlite or clay pebbles built in to help move excess water through.
First use
Being pre-buffered, it's ready to plant into straight from the bag - no need for the cal-mag pre-soak that unbuffered coco requires.
