Rhino Smart EC Fan Controller - Precise Climate Control, No Extra Power Supply
Best for: growers running Rhino EC-rated intake and/or extraction fans who want automatic, temperature-linked speed control instead of a fixed manual dial.
Our thoughts
This is a genuinely useful step up from a basic speed dial. It reads temperature and adjusts fan speed on its own, controls two fans at once for balanced intake and extraction, and draws its own power from the fan itself so there's no extra plug to find. Nothing flashy, just solid automation that does the job it's built for.
The Rhino Smart EC Fan Controller is a climate controller built specifically for EC (electronically commutated) fans, letting you set a target temperature and leave the fan speed to look after itself. It adjusts fan output from 1% to 100% in 1% steps using the included temperature and humidity probe, holding conditions steady rather than running the fan flat-out or on a fixed manual setting. It's designed to control both an intake and an extraction EC fan together, so pressure in the tent or room stays balanced rather than pulling one way.
How it compares
It sits between basic manual dials and full climate computers.
- vs manual speed controllers: adds automatic, temperature-based adjustment instead of a fixed dial setting you have to check and change yourself
- vs advanced multi-sensor climate systems (e.g. TrolMaster): simpler and cheaper, focused on fan speed control rather than a full app-based ecosystem
- vs standard AC fan controllers: only works with EC-signal fans (such as Rhino EC Ultra / EC Ultra Silent), so it needs a compatible fan to begin with
In plain terms: proper automated fan control at a price that makes sense, provided your fan is EC-compatible.
Usage guidance
Installation
Plug your EC fan into the controller. The controller draws its power from the fan itself, so there's no separate mains connection to sort out for the unit.
Positioning the probe
Place the included probe near canopy height or wherever you want the controller taking its temperature reading from.
Setting a target
Dial in your desired temperature. The controller ramps the fan between 1% and 100% in small steps to hold that temperature rather than running full speed or nothing.
Dual fan setup
Connect an intake and an extraction fan together so both are controlled in sync, keeping air pressure balanced rather than one fan overpowering the other.
Day/night programmes
Set different targets for lights-on and lights-off periods so the room doesn't overcool or overheat when conditions change.

Who this is for
- Growers running Rhino EC-rated fans who want hands-off temperature control
- Anyone upgrading from a basic manual speed dial and tired of chasing temperature swings
- Multi-fan setups needing synced intake and extraction control
- New growers who want real automation without a full climate-computer setup
Best suited to tents and small rooms running one or two EC fans that need to hold a steady temperature without constant manual adjustment.
Our take
This controller does exactly what a smart fan controller should: it takes the guesswork out of fan speed and keeps your room at the temperature you actually want, not whatever the fan happens to be doing. The dual fan control and self-powering design are the standout features here - fewer cables, fewer settings to fight with.
If you're running EC-compatible fans and want proper temperature-linked control without stepping up to a full climate system, this is worth picking up. One we sell a lot of for new growers moving on from manual dials.
