Advanced Nutrients Coco Cultivator Plus 70/30 50 Litres - Balanced Coco and Perlite for Hand Watering
Best for: Growers who hand water and want a coco substrate that holds moisture well without waterlogging the roots.
Our thoughts
This is the "middle" Cultivator blend, and for most hand-watering growers it's the one to reach for. More coco than the 50/30/20 Mix means it holds water for longer between feeds, but there's still enough perlite in there to stop it going soggy. Does exactly what it should, day in, day out.
Coco Cultivator Plus is a 70% coco coir, 30% perlite blend sold in a 50 litre bag. The higher coco content gives better moisture and nutrient retention than the 50/30/20 Mix, while the perlite still keeps enough air in the root zone to avoid compaction and root rot. Like the rest of the Cultivator range, it's RHP certified - the coco is washed, tested and pre-buffered for low EC before bagging, so you're not starting from an unpredictable raw material.
It's a light, fluffy medium that suits both hand-watered pots and automated systems, but it's specifically positioned as the balanced option for growers who don't want to be watering multiple times a day the way the more open 50/30/20 Mix demands.
How it compares
Sits between the fast-draining Mix and the pure coco end of the range.
- Holds more water than the 50/30/20 Mix, so it suits hand watering better and forgives a missed feed more easily
- Drains and aerates better than 100% coco products from brands like Canna or Plagron, thanks to the 30% perlite content
- RHP certification keeps it in line with premium coco brands rather than unbranded budget coco, without the price tag of buying coco and perlite separately and blending your own
A genuinely balanced option - less fiddly to manage than the open Mix, more aerated than straight coco.
Usage guidance
This blend is forgiving, but a few basics help it perform at its best.
Hand watering
Water when the top inch or two of the pot feels dry rather than on a strict schedule - the 30% perlite content means it still drains well, so overwatering is less likely than with soil, but you don't want it constantly saturated either.
Automated systems
Works fine on drip or flood and drain too, just space out feed cycles more than you would with the 50/30/20 Mix since this blend holds water for longer.
First use
Because it's pre-buffered, you don't need to soak and rinse it before planting the way you would with unbuffered coco.

Our take
For most hand-watering growers this is the sensible middle ground in the Cultivator range - enough water retention to forgive a missed feed, enough drainage to avoid root problems. It's RHP certified so you're not gambling on substrate quality.
One we sell a lot of for new growers moving into coco for the first time.
